Mission

Facilitate the process of empowerment of the poor, especially among the indienous communities (adivasis, dalits, fishers,rural artisams, Minorities the marginalised and the victims of disaster and dominant development) in India, with a view to their achieving self-governance with ownership of the development processes. Influence all policies and programmes of the state, national and international organisa tion affecting these communities, directly and indirectly. Realise the human, socio-cultural and political rights with ecological and economic balance, gender and social justice, quality of life, with an emphasis on people-centred sustainable development in a given timeframe of 5 to 1 5 years.

OBJECTIVES

To help people discover their own Communities, resources, accompany the people in their journey towards development; imbibe the elements and values of critical consciousness, involve people in recollecting the past, understanding the present and focussing on the future, and to get people to envision and empower themselves through a systematic plan of action for a better future.

Since generations' advancement in technology has been expanding, still the basic needs of millions of people are unfulfilled. Water, air, land are the life supporting natural resources gifted to man. With the passage of time and advancement in technology, the means of betterment of life have been explored and implemented at many places. The resource availability and need to harness have been felt by the community and at several places, even without the interventions from outside. Certain areas are deficient in such resource and are underdeveloped. DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION AMONG THE POOR

It is imperative, to seek ways and means of developing an educational pattern where the majority will have an opportunity, to know what is happening to them, to participate and to struggle in order to change the systems making them poor rather than emphasizing on formal education though literacy may be necessary at a stage....

The purpose of education is to bring growth to an individual and thus to the large society. The majority of the people learn form their own experiences.
