Skill training programme was organised at different level by the core staff to promote rural skills particularly for the weaker sections of the society. The main criteria is to inculcate new skills and value added technologies to ameliorate the living condition and- secure sustainable livelihood for the poorest of the poor. The details of the different programmes entail during this period are stated below:
Training on broom making was conducted in Jhimkiguda village from 7th April to 17th April 2000. Training was imparted to 30 persons(20 males & 1 0 females) from three Adivasi villages. The module of the training consisted on broom stick cuttings, shortening of broom sticks, broom bindings, combination of unparalleled broom sticks into a single unit. The distinct size and weight of broom sticks are @ 39" of 350 gms @ 36" of 3OOgms and @ 33' of 250 gms. Further, after accomplishing their task they were engaged in the processing of broom under the Mahila Mandal NTFP processing centre. Mass production of brooms was undertaken.
The collected brooms were stored in Champakendha, Bondaguda and Jhimkiguda villages. For separation and drying women group members were involved through out the process. After finishing the necessary procedures the brooms were shifted to the said villages to be commercialised.
Binding work was performed in Bondaguda and Jhimkiguda villages. At the primary stage technical support was furnished to the women group members by the core staff. Three models of broom design was introduced by ORMAS (350 gms, 3OOgms, 250gms). As of now, every pending works associated with the processing of brooms have been completed, except marketing the finished goods.
The "Deomaii Mahila Society' a network of women groups of three (Bondaguda, Jhimkiguda and Sundiput) villages was formed. Last year the society collected hill brooms from Rayagada forest range, Koraput. DST staff followed up in the processing and marketing of brooms. In two villages tamarind processing training was conducted from May 7th to May 10th, 2000. All the 22 female participants belonged to the Adivasi communities. They were trained in the technique of de-seeding, drying of the processed tamarind and Polythene packaging by pressing machine. Apart from the above training programmes, regular follow up of the different existing production units were taken up. The details are as follows:
